Summer 2024 Theory Course Registration Now Open
Our theory courses are designed to teach the fundamental tenets of music theory and prepare students for RCM theory examinations. Classes are held weekly, with one extra class scheduled for review and tutoring. Materials include the required theory textbook(s), practice exams, and any other supplementary materials, worksheets, and audio recordings. Students who would like to obtain secondary school accreditation for both grade 11 and 12 should start with the HMAI Level 5 Theory course. All courses listed below are currently open for enrolment.

About the Instructor: Massimo Guida (DMA, MMus, BMus) is our in-house theory specialist with an extensive background in music theory and composition. He has a doctoral degree in composition and has had some of his works featured on the current 2022 RCM syllabus.

Private Theory Lessons
Private Theory Lessons are offered for all theory requirements from beginner up to a University graduate level. Our instructors are also qualified to teach all RCM Theory levels as well. As the schedule and curriculum for individual theory lessons tend to vary from student to student, please contact us directly for an assessment so we can properly tailor a unique theory progression for your specific needs.
Secondary School Accreditation
In accordance with Ontario Schools: Policy and Program Requirements 2016 (Kindergarten to Grade 12), students may obtain a secondary school credit for completing the corresponding RCM practical exam and RCM theory exam, as delineated in the table below. As each school board may have different requirements, please consult with your secondary school academic counsellor to confirm accreditation eligibility. To redeem a secondary school credit, you may need to provide a RCM transcript which indicates the completion of the corresponding courses. If you require a copy of a transcript, please contact RCM directly.
